Designed for beginners to word processing who wish to learn Word 2000 to the Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) syllabus.
Learners will need experience of using a Windows operating system and ideally keyboarding skills.
The course lasts for about 24 hours and covers the following topics:
Lesson 1: Naming and saving a document, insert and overtype mode, editing text, print preview and printing documents, using the Office Assistant.
Lesson 2: Shortcut menus, spelling and grammar, using the thesaurus, line and paragraph spacing, opening an existing document, using the taskbar to switch between windows, undo and redo, creating a new folder.
Lesson 3: Automatic date and time, envelopes and labels, different screen views, page breaks, navigating between pages, text enhancement, applying character spacing, text alignment, changing font and font size.
Lesson 4: Use AutoCorrect, use a wizard
to create a new document and use AutoText. Set tab stops
to control the display of text and figures.
Lesson 5: Use cut, copy and paste; learn
to use the office clipboard and format painter.
Lesson 6: Use find and replace and learn
to use the browse feature. Use bullets and numbering when
working with lists and insert page headers and footers and page
numbers. Learn to align text on the page.
Lesson 7: Insert and modify tables in a
document. Sort text and use words auto sum feature.
Apply borders and shading, set text indentation and control page
layout. Learn to create new templates from existing
documents.
Lesson 8: Enhance documents with WordArt
and ClipArt, format text into columns and add/edit comments.
Lesson 9: Save documents as web pages.
Insert hyperlinks. Use Word as an EMail editor.
Create and modify charts and diagrams.

Intended for anyone wishing to learn Word 2003 to an advanced level following the Microsoft Office User Specialist (MOUS) syllabus. Students must have Word 2003 skills to an intermediate level – and ideally have completed the Word 2003 course.
The course lasts for about 24 hours and covers the following topics:
Lesson 1: Mail merge using existing documents, create a main document and a data source, set query options within a mail merge, use mail merge to create envelopes and labels.
Lesson 2: Create and edit a data source, print a data source, sort records, update, insert and delete records, manage fields.
Lesson 3: Apply paragraph shading, sort paragraphs, sort data in a table, perform calculations in a table, embed worksheets, link Excel data, modify worksheets.
Use Microsoft Graph to create a chart, modify data in a chart,
modify the chart type, import data into charts.
Lesson 4: Use word count, change file
properties and create multiple versions of a document.
Protect documents. Use find and replace to locate special
characters and attach a digital signature to a document.
Lesson 5: Create and modify table of
contents and document index. Create cross-references in an
index, insert bookmarks and create index using bookmarks.
Lesson 6: Control flow of text,
create a watermark, modify document background. Use
footnotes and endnotes. Insert a caption, create
cross-references within a document and set up different page
numbering within a document. Work with master documents
and sub-documents.
Lesson 7: Create and run a macro.
Edit macros. Create and use forms, include drop down
lists, create date format and use calculations in a form.
Lesson 8: Insert a movie, modify a
web page. Apply a theme to a document and save in XML
format. Attach a schema to a word document and apply XML
tags.
