Computer Keyboard Skills

Ideal for anyone who expects to use a PC regularly or wishes to learn touch-typing skills for their job. Students require familiarisation with a Windows operating system.


The course will take about 20 hours to complete and comprises 25 modular units to introduce and consolidate the alpha-numeric keys.


There is a validation test at the end of this course, and a certificate will be issued on successful completion.


The course contributes to: NVQ: ‘Using Information Technology’ Level 1, Units IT/US 1.02, Element 1c; Level 2, Unit IT/US 2.02, Element 1d and NVQ: ‘Administration’ Level 1, Unit L1.7, Element 1.7.1; Level 2, Unit L2.7, Element 2.7.2.

Keyboard Speed Development

Computer Keyboard Skills

Designed for Secretaries and other individuals for whom typing is a major part of their job function. The student requires touch typing experience and a typing speed greater than 25 wpm prior to the course.


The course consists of four 20hour stages ranging from 25-70 wpm, which aim to increase speed, dexterity, accuracy and productivity.


Students complete graded copying exercises to emphasise different points of technique for flexibility and dexterity. Speed tapes are used to provide timed dictation for pacing against targets and a speed test, and a certificate are issued on successful completion

Audio Transcription Level1

Audio Transcription

Those wishing to learn audio transcription skills. The course is also suitable for students who wish to gain an OCR in Audio Transcription Stage I Part 2. Students are expected to have Word processing skills to proficient level.


The course will take about 15 hours and covers the following topics:


Lesson 1: Effectively operate the transcriber, transcribe sentences, the use of the comma, transcribe paragraphs which include initial capitals.


Lesson 2: Transcribe sentences displayed in double line spacing, transcribe a short report with the heading in capitals, transcribe a business memo and a report displayed in double line spacing.


Lesson 3: Transcribe commonly misspelled words, transcribe two business letters and a business memo.


Lesson 4: Transcribe sentences containing similar sounding words (homophones), transcribe a report and change line spacing as instructed, transcribe a business letter with enclosure.


Lesson 5: Transcribe a short report containing commonly mis-spelt words at increased speeds, transcribe a longer report and change to single line spacing as instructed, transcribe a memo containing measurements.


Lesson 6: Transcribe a memo with emphasised text, transcribe two business letters

Audio Transcription Level2

Audio TranscriptionDesigned anyone wishing to build on their audio transcription skills using a word processor who wish to take an OCR examination in Audio Transcription at Level 2

 

Familiar with a word processing program, ideally Word 2003 is required plus basic audio-transcription skills, ideally you should have completed the Audio Transcription Level 1 course

 

Objective: To achieve audio transcription skills to the OCR Text Processing Level 2 Audio Transcription (Intermediate) syllabus.

  • Lesson One – Transcribing a letter, memo and report, including the changing of line spacing
     
  • Lesson Two – Transcribing a variety of documents which include special marks, brackets and vertical space, routing of documents
     
  • Lesson Three – Transcribing a variety of documents, including those which include the display of text in columns
     
  • Lesson Four – Transcribing documents from dictation including hesitations, corrections and missing text
     
  • Lesson Five – Transcribing documents and timing to help increase speed
     
  • Lesson Six – Transcribing a variety of documents without a break and timing
