Course Structure

All courses have the same structure although course lengths differ depending on the complexity of the subject matter.

Support for learners is provided at two levels.

For those with prior experience or access to support from IT Professional colleagues the course comprises simply the documentation, online support and end of course practice tests.

For those who are new to, or seeking to break into the IT Profession tutor support is provided as outlined below.

The tutor supported course structure described below is based on completion of weekly Modules, centred around the 2 hour tutorial class.

Courses documentation is provided in A5 format, loose leaf binders that allow individual modules to be extracted if preferred to reduce the amount of paperwork carried should you wish to keep the course close at hand.  For Windows7 and all Server 2008 courses students will be provided with Microsoft Official Academy Courseware (MOAC) in conjunction with our own Study Guide and Lab manual.

As with all courses there is inevitably a good deal of reading required and a lot of information to absorb.  You will benefit from having someone to discuss areas of difficulty with and our specialist mentoring service is designed to fulfil that need.

Operated through the online site, learners can pose their questions and seek additional guidance.  All questions are stored on the servers and can be viewed by other course members.  Responses are promised within 1 working day, although often the response will be much faster.

An alternative way to get further explanation of difficult areas is to ask the question in class at the weekly tutorial session.  These 2 hour sessions are structured by the tutor who can provided audio explanations, visual demonstrations with the students seeing the output on the tutor's screen and interaction allowing students to take control of the tutor PC using either mouse or keyboard input.

Students are encouraged to ask questions and seek further explanation of any areas that they are finding difficult, however this may not be necessary as the tutor will probably have already anticipated the questions and prepared material to cover areas that most classes struggle with.

Inevitably most students will welcome guidance on those areas typically covered in the exam, and this is an area that the tutor can assist with, as although content of individual exams can not be predicted it is generally possible to highlight those areas most frequently covered, and those which can safely be ignored.

Virtual Server's are available to students to carry out practical tasks using software / operating systems that would generally not be available to them.  These servers are pre-configured to suit the course tasks and students are encouraged to make full use of them.

Each course will have an allowance of time in the Virtual Lab Environment (typically A+ learners are allowed 16hours) and each session has a maximum length of 2 hours, although this is really intended to tidy up after students who forget to log off.  Tasks are saved on the servers allowing the students to return at a later time and take up where they left off.

The end of every Module is marked by the completion of a short progress test that is designed to highlight any areas of weakness.  Automatically marked online and stored on the server the test allows students to revise weak areas, and at the end of the course revisit the tests to confirm that the detail has not been forgotten.

At the end of the course a practice exam can be taken in either study mode or exam mode, where the study mode allows access to the right answer and the exam mode more closely resembles the real thing.
